Capra's (women's side, Caprina's) Super Star, Tarni Smith announces she will not be participating in this year's BMD competition as she assess' the year ahead.
Today, looking stunningly amazing, her succesful year and come back from ACL injury as she announced that she is happy and was happy to return to the field sooner than she did after recovering from her injury in 2022.
Stating that it was a mental battle returning from injury while executing the recovery program with her rehabilitation specialists.
The specialists advised her that it would be a 12 month recovery at the maximum in comparison to elite athletes who suffer from ACL injuries in most cases, whilst quick recovery can turn around the injury at 8 months. She was satisfied to say that she however, was able to have a successful and fast recovery for rehabilitation ACL injury, recovering within 7 months strictly disciplining herself to the plan. She stated she could only remind herself to take it day by day with hope to return to the field.
Last year was a successful year for her, having competed in the league and making it to the finals with her Emu Park Squad. She mentioned that the side consisted of a variety of ages with a few rookies rising in the ranks. Complimenting their performance overall as a team, making it to the finals, just falling short of the title by a few points. The finalists and rivalry is usually between the same 2 sides. We asked her if she was a Poony (from Yeppoon) or a Parky (from Emu Park) as the local's like to hone in on tribal bragging rights. She humbly declared she was a 'Parky' as she stated she found her 'forever home'.
Making Capra's was a huge achievement for her as she reflects on her performance level as a competitor further acknowledging and giving credit to her Coaches, Jason Field and the late Masada losefa who passed in 2021. In acknowledging losefa, she mentioned that he pushed her and always realigned her 'grit' focus even in the toughtest of times with her goal set on making the Capra side. She further mentioned while after losefa passed, she then made Capra's and mentioned he was not able to be there but gives him credit of her success in making the side as their achievement.
Whilst relaxing with a tasty beverage, she further highlighted other NRLW players who she watches in the footy scene. She mentioned her favourite player is Queensland, powerhouse Shaniah Power.
In asking the proud Barada Barna woman, From there to now, what got her into footy, she further stated when she was young, she wanted to originally get into boxing but her mum tried persuading her into playing netball but she found her energy resonated footy.
She reflects on herself from 16 when she left home in Blackwater, to living in Woorabinda, to working in a cafe for $10 an hour, optioning to leaving high school in grade 11 to now having a positive outlook and lifestyle in corporate career. She now confirms her schedule for the year ahead realigning her 'grit' to health and well-being.
