In delving into the sweet dreams of eternity, we examine the insights of the Dream Catcher.
What is the dream catcher?
According to sources, some Native American and First Nations cultures, a dreamcatcher (Ojibwe: asabikeshiinh, the inanimate form of the word for 'spider') is a handmade willow hoop, on which is woven a net or web. It may also be decorated with sacred items such as certain feathers or beads. Traditionally, dreamcatchers are hung over a cradle or bed as protection.[2] It originates in Anishinaabe culture as "the spider web charm" – asubakacin 'net-like' (White Earth Nation); bwaajige ngwaagan 'dream snare' (Curve Lake First Nation) – a hoop with woven string or sinew meant to replicate a spider's web, used as a protective charm for infants.
Dream catchers were adopted in the Pan-Indian Movement of the 1960s and 1970s and gained popularity as widely marketed "Native crafts items" in the 1980s.

What's the catch?
The traditional meaning of a dream catcher is related to its function as a filter for bad dreams or negative energies. It is believed that the web of the dream catcher captures the bad dreams and prevents them from entering a person’s mind. The good dreams, on the other hand, pass through the hole and down the feathers to gently brush against the sleeping person's forehead and bring him or her sweet and positive thoughts! Dreamcatchers are also believed to bring protection to people as they sleep. They are often hung in places of spiritual significance such as a bedroom, living room, or even around campfires. Additionally, they are believed to help promote harmony and balance within an environment.
Dream catchers are always supposed to be gifted to a person and not taken on purpose. Sometimes, even a piece of bone or a tooth... anything that is important to the person making the dreamcatcher was put in to remind them of the aim.”
